See, that’s what the app is perfect for.

Sounds perfect Wahhhh, I don’t wanna

I want Luka Modrić to know that he made me fall in love with football.

I liked it before I ever saw him, but I didn’t love it until I saw him play. He did that. Not Messi, not Ronaldo, not Neymar. Luka Modrić. For the way he is so smart and elegant with the ball, for the way he never stops fighting, for how kind and humble he is.

He made me fall in love with a club I had never watched before, with a national team I had never rooted for before, he made me appreciate this sport in a way I hadn’t before. He did that. I only wish I had noticed him sooner.

So if this is his last World Cup (I won’t say for certain because he does defy the laws of physics), even though he leaves without a trophy, he is the winner of everything to me.

Pinned Post luka modric croatia nt real madrid world cup 2022 sorry I'm so deep in my feelings i just really wanted them to have this hey at least there's the nations league?

So that looks like the church where Mike is placing the figures. The building with the tower to the left in the square is the library which is shown to be barricaded off by the military. This area around the library is probably where the kids, Mike, Will and Joyce encounter Vecna at the end of Vol. 1 and Vecna is shown to be in the library in the upside at the beginning of the trailer.

The figures look like a paladin (shield, sword, and helmet) which I'm assuming is Mike. Will's painting in Season 4 showed Mike's paladin with a shield and we would expect them to continue that imagery. The other figure is tricky. It looks like a blue cloak/hood. Now, I want to assume that is Will--because of Churchgate, the fact that Will and Mike seem to be a pair, and because I want it it to be true because I love Mike and Will (not even for just byler reasons, I just like their dynamic). But the weird thing is that a hood just doesn't match up with the images we have of Will the Wise. Will the Wise pretty consistently has a pointed wizard's hat--in the painting in Season 4, will's costume in Season 3, Will's drawing in Season 2, and the D&D figure that Eleven picks up in Season 1 all have a pointed (often purple) wizard hat and staff. So it would be a little weird if this was Will based on that.

So who is it? Looking at the other figures on the table next to the map, we see a van that looks like the radio van, a green car (military vehicle?), another figure with a sword or spear (maybe this is Lucas's figure who also had a sword in Will's painting) a figure in black with its arms out (some kind of rogue?, Dustin's bard?), a gray piece (maybe a monster figure), a figure in gray robes with maybe a pointed hat and what could be a staff (this might unfortunately be Will's mini), a figure with an orange cloak (this is definitely Holly's new D&D character based on the pictures of her in her cloak).

If the paladin is Mike, then Will makes the most sense to me. I don't think it would be Mike and anyone else based on who he seems to be teamed up with this season (Joyce, Robin, Holly, and some other kids). And I don't think either figure is Dustin or Lucas. Dustin goes off with the teens and Lucas is seemingly alone or with Max (and Max wouldn't be able to get to the church at this point). The location of the church in relation to the barricade might explain why Will and Mike end up in the area around the library ultimately.

In terms of people who are paired up, who could it be? The hooded figure could represent El and the paladin could represent Hopper? El's training look this season with the bandana is giving undercover (cloaked) vibes. Hopper meanwhile is bodyguarded up with El this season (and we have seen him fight with a sword before so a sword and shield makes sense to represent him). Could Mike be describing some plan in which El and Hopper might be trying to get to Vecna (whose base this season is probably the library) via the Church? But why would he be laying out what Hopper and El are doing for Lucas, and Dustin, and Will? Wouldn't it make more sense for him to be making a plan in relation to themselves?

I don't know and I definitely could have gotten some details wrong here but I can't wait for this season. I am intrigued by the fact that one figure obviously seems to point at Mike but the other is more vague. Also I am interested in knowing the significance of the Church. It hasn't been a relevant location really yet, not like the library (where Will ended up intubated season 1 and where the nexus of the portal cracks into hawkins appeared in season 4). The church did have that hate message at the end of last season which ties to hellfire club, etc. and of course knowing Will's sexuality it feels like a thematically juicy place for Vecna to prey on Will's "otherness" but I'm not sure about that. Why would Mike be planning to go there if that is his figure?

Thanks to someone pointing it out to me, now I am certain its Mike (paladin) and Lucas (ranger) at the church. Mike and Lucas are planning to head out to gather intel on “the burn” in the teaser. And the church has a perfect vantage point to the library where the gate is.

And probably the burn is what causes Will to faint at the radio station.

i know people want the minis to be byler and like so did i but i don't want to get my heart set on little things that have other better explanations stranger things 5

So looking at it again I am pretty sure the figure in the pile with the staff is Will the Wise. It looks like the mini from Season 1. So I don’t think its Will in the Church plan. Could be Lucas’s ranger or maybe Mike thinks he will go with El before she is like um no and before shit goes down with Will and Vecna.

I also noticed this in front of Mike when he’s planning with the larger group

image

A whole other set of minis! There’s the demogorgon and what is maybe Dustin’s dwarf character on the right. And then 3 other figures I can’t make out and the radio van.

This begs the question how many minis does Mike have? Maybe the party has multiple campaign characters or he has minis for Holly, Erica, and her friends?

I saw some troll ragging on Will for being useless and always needing to be saved. And obviously that’s ridiculous ragebait, but it made me think about arguments I hear made about Frodo a lot. That Frodo is useless, that he’s always hurt, that Frodo needs other people to save him from the troll, that Sam is the real hero of the story. And like yes, Frodo does need other people–he tells Sam himself that “Frodo wouldn’t have gotten far without Sam”–but that doesn’t make him weak or useless. Frodo is incredibly strong, he carries the ring for months towards the pull of its influence and only falters at the end. He endures something that no one else in the story can fully understand, except Gollum and he sees and sympathizes with how the experience altered Smeagol. Frodo is both strong enough and wise enough to know that what he is enduring may change him for the worse and that he wouldn’t be able to get far without the help of his friends. That sounds like strength to me.

Will to me basically is Frodo. While the others have their brushes with the Upside Down, none of them know what it’s like to spend a week in a twisted horrorscape of your home, being hunted by monsters, with no one there to help you. Every other person who has spent time in the Upside Down, has either died or been armed with some knowledge of what they were going into and had a much quicker escape route than Will did. The only other person to spend more time there than Will is Henry Creel and he was drastically altered by the experience. Will too has been altered by what he went through. In Season 2, when the Mind Flayer takes over him, he has the strength to push through and try to warn and help his friends defeat it even at the expense of his life. I hope this commonality between Vecna and Will is really explored in Season 5. ****Spoilers for The First Shadow: Both are described as sensitive boys, boys who went missing in the other dimension and altered by the entity that they found there which leaves them ostracized from other people. Would Will like Frodo see the similarities been himself and this other creature? Does Vecna?****

And through it all, Will, like Frodo, is still so good-hearted! He is wise and generous enough to recognize that it is friends who helped him through all the horrors he’s been through (god, give my boy a break!). He tells Mike that it is them who saved him not Dr. Owens or the scientists and military. He builds up his friends, particularly Mike, highlighting their heroism again and again (even when it hurts him–see Van scene). Will knows he needs them, and that love for them and theirs for him is how he gets the strength to survive all he has gone through when others (like Barb–in the upside down–and Billy– possessed by the mind flayer) couldn’t.

Anyway, I just think it’s crazy that people can see characters like Will or Frodo and think they are useless. They see heroism and bravery in moments and discount the strength required to endure.
